A few weeks ago my grandparents celebrated their 60th year in marriage... their diamond anniversary. What an amazing experience. Its moments like this where I can only hope that every family experiences life tied together by one happiness and celebration after another.
Unfortunately, all the hope in the world cannot change what many families are faced with. The Canadian Cancer Society estimated 177,800 new cancer patients in 2011 alone. This is only in Canada. That is 177,800 too many. Cancer is one of many diseases which cannot be overcome without further research and development towards a cure.
It’s a shame that a common general comment happens to be; as long as we have our health. Perhaps this is a comment sans the realization that whether we have it, or not, is not a choice one can make. Maybe what needs to be said is not a comment at all, but more of a question. What can I do to keep my health and the health of my family? .... And further, What can I do to help others get their health back?
Well, I'm not an oncologist. Actually, I personally don't know anyone who is. But that doesn't mean I'm not capable of lending support to those searching for a cure to cancer.
I've committed to run a half marathon this May 6th, 2012 (the Goodlife Marathon) and raise funds in support of The Princess Margaret Hospital's cancer research division. This is my pledge.
I believe that sometimes it only takes one to win a fight...In fact a few days ago I saw someone post on facebook a comical poster, “There’s no ‘I’ in Team, But there is in ‘Win’”. But when faced with such a powerful opponent as cancer, there is strength in numbers and we can all do our part in this fight.
I am running to raise funds that will benefit those currently fighting and be a part of a movement to save lives. If you would like to run with me, send me an email at sgrywul@alwaysamortgage.com, or be a part of the journey - by giving a donation.
Thank you so much for your support… Sandra
