My small story of what “The Walk” has done for me…….
I’m like many other people I joined the team to support a great cause and to support family when I saw I could.
What I didn’t realize is what being a part of this fund raising team would do for me, personally. I’m not the one diagnosed however the Princess Margaret Walk A Thon for Multiple Myeloma has helped me gain strength and momentum as my family takes on the journey set in front of them.
During the last three months both my mom and brother in law were diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Totally shocking being diagnosed with a disease let alone the same one. Both have started treatment and are doing phenomenally well.
My nieces who started the team asked if I wanted to join-- I said “where do I sign up?” What I didn’t realize is by signing up I have gained a whole new energy and sense that I’m making a difference. It has strengthened my coping skills and awareness for the need for such fund raisers.
We as Ontarians are lucky to have the medical knowledge and technology available to us, so what better way to support it then to support each other in a team spirit and walk in the Walk a Thon.
Come join us on June 23rd. The support is doing wonders for all of us. You would be helping fund a cause that you never know if you or someone you know will utilize someday.
Look at me, within two months Multiple Myeloma is a popular word in our family…..but if you noticed it’s not a “sentence”! Let’s make a difference for tomorrow!
