Support Our Team
Welcome to the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Team!
WE DID IT! We surpassed our goal of $10,000 by a longshot......$15,354! How great is that? And, we can keep growing that amount until December 31, 2009. In addition, Mike Komisarek our Honorary Team Captain presented us with a personal cheque of $5,000 in memory of his Mum Kathy. So that would bring us to $20,354. YEAH YEAH YEAH.
A huge warm hug to the whole team and all the amazing people who supported their efforts. We had a wonderful morning and it felt really good to do something real in memory of those we lost to this terrible cancer.
BREAKING NEWS! Mike Komisarek, Defenceman for the Toronto Maple Leafs has joined our team as Honorary Team Captain in memory of his mother Kathy who died of pancreatic cancer in December 2005.
Who are we?
Pancreatic Cancer Canada is a national voluntary association dedicated to raising public awareness of a disease often referred to as a silent killer because it is so difficult to detect. Through our fundraising arm, The Dick Aldridge Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, we have been raising money since 2006 to support leading-edge research into early detection methods.
The leading beneficiary of our fundraising efforts to date has been The Pancreas Screening Study at Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital. It is our hope that information from this study will lead to the development of cost-effective screening tests that will enable doctors to diagnose this disease at an earlier and more treatable stage.
Why do we do it?
- Pancreatic Cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death
- The 99% mortality rate is the highest of any cancer
- Average life expectancy is 3-6 months
- Early detection is the only hope and at present there is not a tool for early detection
- Woeful lack of adequate research funding
