About Elana Waldman and The Elana Waldman Ovarian Cancer Research Program

Elana battled ovarian cancer for almost 8 years. Despite difficult treatments, numerous side effects, and many ups and downs, Elana's dynamic personality, sense of humor, and dedication to her family and friends never ceased.

Elana was a loving wife to Mark, an adoring mother to Sydney, and a dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend.

Elana was an exceptional lawyer, a tireless volunteer fundraiser and passionate advocate for ovarian cancer awareness. She inspired thousands with her words and with the way she chose to live her life in the face of such adversity. She was also a "fashionista" who always appreciated a great pair of shoes.

Elana requested that donations in her memory support ovarian cancer research at The Princess Margaret. Her life and legacy will continue to inspire us all.

When first diagnosed, she created a fund to support research for Ovarian Cancer. Often called "a disease the whispers" because of the difficulty in diagnosing this form of cancer, Elana sought to bring a voice to those with Ovarian Cancer creating a campaign entitled "Time To Shout". Through events such as aWEARness, and Dance to Conquer Cancer as well as other fundraising ideas, Elana, along with many others, raised significant funds for research.

The Elana Waldman Ovarian Cancer Research Program will now build on all of Elana's efforts creating a $3M program in her name to find ways for earlier diagnosis, greater awareness, better treatments and ultimately longer lives.

Elana took part in clinical trials under the direction of
Dr. Amit Oza. To read more about his work, please click here.
