Support My Journey
I'm participating in the Multiple Myeloma Walk again this year in memory of my beautiful, amazing husband, Jacques.
Anyone who spent any time with Jacques during his last year of life probably heard him tell the story of the 2 arrows: "Buddhists say that any time we suffer misfortune, two arrows fly our way. The first arrow is the actual bad event, which can, indeed, cause pain. The second arrow is the suffering. That’s actually optional. The second arrow represents our reaction to the bad event. It’s the manner in which we choose to respond emotionally."
"Don't shoot the second arrow" became a guiding principle for how Jacques chose to handle his diagnosis and endless stream of treatments, and it's what kept his outlook so positive in the face of adversity. I try to continue to follow this principle, even now.
Another source of strength has been all the lovely, generous, caring people who have supported us/me this past year. You have been a huge comfort. Thank you!
Please consider sponsoring me for this year's Journey to Conquer Cancer Walk on June 17 to benefit Multiple Myeloma research at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
