On Saturday, June 2, 2018, I will be stepping out of my comfort zone and into a ring to compete in a charity boxing match in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
Fight to End Cancer is an event unlike any other. Myself, along with my #FTEC2018 teammates, will commit endless hours and energy for the next seven months to train as amateur boxers for this life-changing event. So in June 2018, I will be putting on my boxing gloves and stepping into the ring to FIGHT BACK against cancer.
I have a very personal interest in the goal of this event, having lost my father to cancer at the age of 51. We were all devastated by his sudden passing. During the short and difficult time between my dad's diagnosis and passing, I discovered I was pregnant with my first child, Jack. For those of you who knew my dad, you knew how thrilled he was to have learned of his first grandchild, a grandchild he was so very excited to meet but never got the chance to. I will be fighting this fight in honour of my dad, and for the lost time we should have shared, and the memories we should have made together.
Since my father’s passing, I have gone on to witness the intense and painful struggles of my father-in-law, and two very dear friends who have had to fight this terrible disease. I am very thankful to say that their personal fights have been successful.
Cancer has affected the lives of too many of our friends and family, and I want to help bring an end to this devastating disease! I am hopeful that in my lifetime we will be able to stop fighting and finally BEAT cancer! I ask you all to please support me on this journey and donate to make a difference in the future of cancer research.
When we started this process we were asked to pick a number. A number that would be our fundraising goal. There were a lot of numbers I could have picked, however, one stood out in my mind. 12. The age of my son. The number of years my son has missed out on making memories with my dad, his grandfather. This is how $12,000 became my original personal goal to reach. I am so fortunate to have so many supporters - with all your help I was able to hit my goal and surpass it. Our team this year has an even bigger goal in our sights - the $1 million dollar mark! I have set a new target goal and hope that you will help me reach it - help our team - so we can kick cancer's ass! No amount is too much or too little when it comes to what we are all fighting for.
